Individualized Education Plans
What is an I.E.P.?
An I.E.P. (or individualized education plan),
Is there a place for student voice in I.E.P. meetings?
Yes, though this may vary based on districts. Many resource/student service teachers will discuss strategies and student learning preferences with younger students in order to provide that voice during I.E.P. meetings. With older students, they are often invited into the meetings to provide their own feedback on proposed strategies.
Education Assistant (E.A.)
Teachers' Role vs. E.A.'s Role in the Classroom
BCTF has outlined four key points for teachers' to regard when working with Education Assistants
- An education assistant works under the direction of a teacher or the principal.
- The teacher's role is to manage the classroom.
- Teachers must fulfill their responsibility for diagnosing learning needs, for selecting and implementing appropriate educational programs, and for assessing educational results.
- The assistant's role is to carry out work that has been planned and developed by the teacher, either with an individual student or a small group.
Survey Results
A 10 question survey (created through SurveyMonkey) was released to pre-service educators and encouraged to be shared with any person working with school-aged children. While some questions were in short-answer format, these are the results from the scaled questions.
